children's theater

NSDT has been a cherished part of the North Shore Chicago community since 1994. As a family-oriented nonprofit, we are dedicated to providing a welcoming space where children of all backgrounds and abilities can thrive.

While we continue to offer pre-professional training in dance, theater, and the related arts, our current focus is on children's theater, welcoming performers ages 5-18 of all skill levels. We believe in building community, fostering creativity, and celebrating each individual’s unique talent.

At NSDT, kids can express themselves, make lifelong friendships, and be part of a supportive, family-friendly environment where they can grow!

winter musical theater Production

This winter, performers will light up the stage with an unforgettable showcase featuring some of Broadway’s greatest hits. Experience the magic of theater through showstopping numbers from Wicked, Hamilton, Six, Cinderella, The Sound of Music, and more!

About the Production

Join us for an exciting celebration of acting, singing, and dancing where every performer shines. Our innovative pod-based rehearsal format gives students focused, small-group attention in all areas of performance.

Performers ages 5–18 are invited to join our winter production!

In response to parent feedback, this program places an even stronger emphasis on personalized instruction and smaller group settings. Performers will rotate between staging, acting, singing, and dance pods, receiving direct feedback from instructors and targeted coaching designed to help them grow with confidence.

All rehearsals take place in an inclusive, collaborative, and creative environment where performers are encouraged to take risks, express themselves, and build meaningful connections through the performing arts.

During the first two weekends of rehearsals, performers will audition and be cast in specific scenes and musical numbers. Every performer will receive roles and be encouraged to stretch their skills and shine as artists.

Why Join?

  • Build confidence and stage presence
  • Strengthen acting, singing, and dance skills
  • Work closely with experienced directors and choreographers
  • Make lasting friendships with fellow performers
  • Perform under the lights at the NSTDY Awards Showcase

winter stage squad (CIT PROGRAM)

Our Stage Squad program gives experienced students the opportunity to take their skills to the next level by stepping into leadership and creative support roles.

Stage Squad members work directly with our coaches and production team, receiving hands-on training and mentorship in one or more areas of theater production, including directing, musical direction, choreography, costumes, and props.

Throughout the production, students will assist with rehearsals, tech rehearsals, performances, and additional rehearsals as assigned, gaining valuable behind-the-scenes experience and a deeper understanding of how a production comes together.

Participation in Stage Squad is by invitation or approval of the NSDT production team.

This program is designed to prepare students for a bright future, whether they choose to shine in the spotlight or behind the scenes!
